The Mac is back: third time is suppose to be a charm

Believe it or not…I actually lost my hard drive for a third time this weekend.  Not once, not twice, but three times in a month.   This has to be a record.    Same as before, recovering a Mac is a painless exercise and with my trusty Time Machine backups I experienced exactly zero data loss.     I want to be mad but I love my Mac.   Apple can win me over on customer service alone.     I never really thought about it before but the big leg up for Mac in my mind is they are the single source supplier.   The single point when you have a problem.     I can’t imagine the run around I would get if this was a PC or the time I would spend recovering.

My MAC experience last night:

Dave @ Apple Shibuya:  My MAC died again.

Apple’s Goto-san: I am so sorry about this.    Let me check it….yes it’s your hard drive, again.  Let me grab you a new MacBook.

2 minutes later

Apple’s Goto-san: Here you go, again so sorry.  Let us know if you have any further problems.

10 minutes later at home

Dave’s new Mac: Would you like to recover?

Dave @ home:  Yes

Dave’s new Mac: OK, then please follow these two steps.

1. Wait for data to finish copying

2. Use new Mac

I go to sleep and everything is as it was by morning.  It must have all been a bad dream…

Awesome. I need to see some shots Jon. I am in Singapore in middle of September if you want to shoot a little. I will probably shoot the new Casino or the cool bridge next to it.

Ah yes! I see – they gave you a new one each time.
Wow, then there was a seriously bad batch of hard drives in those machines!

I hope the third time is a charm, as they say!

Apple Shibuya is across the street from GAP and up the hill from the Disney Store. You will feel very much at home.

Believe it or not, these were actually 3 brand new Mac. They replaced the entire machine each time.

Oh – and shouldn’t they check things other than your hard drive?
After three hard drives I’d think they’d start looking at other parts of the innards…

      I love it!

It is pretty rare to have a problem with a Mac, but great that if you do it is quickly remedied.

I needed a new power cord for mine (the connector into the MBP was injured in an accident) and I found my first visit to a Genius Bar amazing. I bought the computer in Canada in August, we live in the Bahamas part of the year – and I took it to Apple in Florida. It took five minutes and they handed me a new cord. :-)

Where is Apple Shibuya? I have had culture shock wandering around Yodobashi, but Apple would feel more like home!
