I wasn’t loving my recent 50mm purchase. I went back to MAP Camera to see if they had other options for me…they happen to have a Noctilux on the shelf. I shop for a Cameras a lot and I have never seen one on a store shelf. This thing is sold out everywhere with ridiculous waiting times. This is the world’s fastest camera lens at .95. Nothing else can (literally) take the same shots as this lens. This thing is amazing! I am looking forward to shooting this a lot over the next few days and during my upcoming trip next week to Beijing and Hong Kong…I have a very understanding wife.

Yummy, creamy, bokeh….

Hi Yono
I have the 50mm Noctilux, 50mm Cron and the 50mm f/2.5 Elmar. They are all great. I don’t think the Noctilux is hard to focus. You are shooting at a very shallow depth of field which produces some amazing results. If you get a few ND filters and a 1.4x magnifier for your viewfinder, the Noctilux can produce results that no other lens can. It will quickly become your favorite lens for a long time. The only downside is it is heavy which is why I love my other 50s as well.
Did you buy summilux 50mm F1.4 and were not happy or the summicron? Would you tell me why? I need to buy the 50mm but waiting to see the new APO 50mm? And,I don’t know if I must buy the lux or Corn or Noc. Is that true that the NOCs is difficult to focus? Someone suggest me to buy the New Apo summicron 50mm /F2. Have you tried it. Now,I have just bought the lux 35mm F1.4 (the best), and the apo 90 F2-(love it) and also the super elmar 21/F3.4-amazing-really sharp…I have not decided the 50mm. Do you have 50mm summicron? Do you have problem focus the NOCs? I have never seen one? But, I plan to go to singapore by nov 14-15 and will visit Leica shop. But,they will close the one at Raffles arcade. But,I can buy easily now without waiting list.I live in java-indonesia. I have read most of your web.You are very lucky person and full of life thru photography.I really enjoy it very much. Thanks Dave. If you come to Bali and Java, pls call me and I will show your arround.

Great, thank you very much. Hope to join you one day on a Tokyo photo walk.
よこそ! Welcome Julian. I am glad you found and like ShootTokyo. You can get the strap at MAP or Lemon Camera. It is from Artist and Artisan. It is very cool on the skin in the summer which is why I love it.
Just discovered your site a couple of days ago and have been looking through a great number of entries since then.
Really great photos Dave and as a fellow Tokyoite and photography enthusiast I`m also finding your comments and advice (in addition to the photos of course!) are very influential and motivating.
A quick question, where did you get your camera strap?
Amazming lens, I like it very much
It’s wonderful isn’t it Chien-Kuo…. The best purchase I ever made.
I has this lens also. This thing is amazing!
Thanks Joseph. I shoot this lens all the time now. I love this lens.
Amazing! Love to see more images of this.
Nice lens Dave! Alfie, any idea what the Mamiya 80mm f/1.9 would equate to in DoF on the standard 35mm?
Thanks for the history lesson Alfie. I just checked out the shots from the Rodenstock on Flicker. It has a depth of field the width of a razor blade. Makes some pretty cool abstract pictures. Let’s do the comparison of the 50mm/0.95 and 80mm f/1.9. Should be fun.
Gorgeous. Gorgeous lens. Canon’s old 0.95 also fits the Leica and is a beauty and a bit cheaper but this is the daddy. Although not technically the fastest ever….the Rodenstock f/0.75 lens is technically the fastest but all were converted from x-ray imaging machine usage to be used on cameras.
Would love to compare this to the Mamiya 80mm f/1.9 I use on the 645AFD and digiback. The 1.9 is the fastest medium-format lens on the planet.
Are you related to the Rockerfellers by any chance? That lens goes for over a million yen new…
羨ましい。

Well done Dave ! This is the best lens on the planet… it’s more efficient than the human eye and it the lens of a lifetime !! congrats.
Wow that lens looks amazing. I can’t wait to see more examples of what it can do. There really is nothing better than a well made prime 50 in my eyes.
