Wide Angle Sunday

Today was the final day in my Summilux-M 21mm rotation, tomorrow will start the Summilux-M 35mm rotation.  After a week of shooting this straight, I have to say I have really enjoyed the experience and believe I have improved my photography a lot especially in relation to visualizing what shots will work at 21mm.    I am hopeful for the same experience with my 35mm rotation.

It was a beautiful day in Tokyo today.  It finally started to feel like spring.  I went for a quick walk to Gooz this morning to pick up some bread.

A Japanese mail delivery bike…

Home sweet home (well 1/6 of it anyways)… look how lovely the sky was today.  It actually looks photoshopped!  (it’s not)

undefined

Starbucks Nakameguro…

undefinedundefined

The Cherry Blossoms along Meguro River are almost in bloom.   Next weekend I image they will be bursting with buds…a few of the vendors were already set up with eating and drinking stations expecting some early ‘ohanami’ viewers.

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

I stopped by to see The Impossible Project Space based on a recommendation, thanks Macro.   I never knew this place was a 10 minute walk from my house.  The Impossible Project is an effort to save Polaroid Cameras and Film.    You can read a bit on their story HERE.    You can access their website and purchase some of their products HERE.   Judging by the number of items that were sold out at the Nakameguro Store, I think they are doing well.    I’ll probably pick up a camera on my next trip.  I got a t-shirt for Mayumi and some buttons and stickers for Kai.   If you haven’t been it is worth a trip.

Meet Kayo (and her attack dog)…

On to Omotesando…

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

I stopped by Brooks Brothers to pick up a gift for my father in law….

undefined

I love this crossing…they have torn down the building across the street and turn it into a parking lot, I presume while they wait to acquire adjacent land.   It isn’t often you get wide open views like this in Tokyo.

undefinedundefined

One thing I have to say about Tokyo is it is such as clean city for the size of it but it’s parking garages are spotless (relatively speaking)…almost to the point of excess.

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Eggs have returned to the grocery stores this weekend…limited to 2 per customer.

undefined

Paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products remain in limited supply….

undefined

Bottled water was pretty much wiped out after the scare earlier in the week about rising radiation levels.

undefined

Gas Stations seem to have returned to full operating capacity with no limits on how much you can purchase…full tank please!

undefinedundefined

Tomorrow I’ll be switching to my Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4.   I hope you have enjoyed the view from 21mm….

What kind of a car is that small car parked in the No Parking zone, please?

Andrew – The store very much reminded me of an Apple Store. Very clean. re: Leica, you can always look at a used M8 and some f/2.0 glass. Not all that unattainable.

Thanks Asha. If you have the means I suggest you buy a Leica… it will make you want to travel more.

Thanks Caroline. Welcome and glad you are liking what you find here. Korea must have a lot of interesting things to shoot as well. Looking forward to seeing what you find.

They were sold out of the SX-70. I might pick one up on my next trip there.

Everyone – BTW – Marco’s company raised ~700 Euros for Red Cross Japan this week! Well done Marco!

Ok I was amazed to see a Fiat 500 (with license plate reading 500!) in Tokyo. I wonder if they are sold over there or it was a collection item.

That particular car – in case you do not know – is a remake of the classic 500 of the 60, this car http://flic.kr/p/9gsTfb

Conflicting informations are coming to us about the radiation levels reading in japan. One day they say it is much worst then previously stated same level as Chernobyl the next day that radiation levels are steadily decreasing.

Thanks for visiting the Impossible Store (and if you want to pick up a camera ask for the folding SX-70 (not the 600 models).

I’m a recent follower on Twitter and this is the first album I’ve looked at. Great photos! You’ve really captured the essence of a Sunday in Tokyo. I live in Korea and am going to go out try the same thing. Very inspiring. Of course, I envy the blue sky. Ours is white today. Thanks!

That Impossible Project’s store is gorgeous. It is akin to an Apple Store in my opinion. Very clean, uncluttered, ‘all about the product’ type of store. I shall certainly checkout their website.

Also I soooo wish I had the money to buy a Leica camera. Think my Canon DSLR will have to do though. At least while I learn more about photography. But its you and your pictures that have brought Leica to my attention. I think you could quite easily be a brand ambassador (seriously). Id never even heard of them before I came to this blog, and now im lusting after one. haha.

And how to take two eggs home? one in each hand?
Anyway, it’s lovely to see the sky is still blue in Tokyo. Thanks, Dave.
