35mm Thursday

Good Morning Nakameguro!   Another 35mm day…  Knowing I am going to have a very long day at work today I decided to walk to Meguro Station vs. Nakameugro.  It is about three times further but I thought a different path would be nice and a long walk can be a good way to start your day.   It is important to keep everything in balance, even when you are busy, especially when you are busy…

undefined

I took the path down by Meguro River.   Soon this place will be alive with ‘ohanami’ Cherry Blossom viewers…packed shoulder to shoulder to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoms.   It is an amazing site to see…

undefined

For now the Cherry Blossoms tease us as they start to open…

I love some of the English that is chosen to be imported in Japan.

undefined

I love the little hardware shops in Tokyo.  They seem to fit so much in such a small space.   This is our Home Depot…

undefined

Graffiti that I can get behind…

undefinedundefined

This view is going to be gorgeous in one more week when all of the Cherry Blossoms open.

You know you have been in Asia long when you walk by this and think ‘Yum!’…  This is actually very delicious.   It is Chinese not Japanese.  It is called Mabudofu, it’s tofu, pork, onions in a spicy sauce.  Love it!

undefined

I use to love this…

undefinedundefinedundefined

Off in the distance I can see Tokyo Sky Tree being built from my window.  This is now the tallest building in the world.   It is the new communication Tower for Tokyo replacing Tokyo Tower.   Something else in China, I believe, is being built that will replace it as the tallest building in the world but for now…

undefined

Rain clouds threaten Shibuya…

undefined

The sun sets off in the distance of the Tokyo Metropolitan building.

undefined

After working very late tonight I am heading to a late dinner.  I need to stay up pretty late tonight to answer some work emails…

undefined

I took the correct train this time…

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Base camp for the next few hours; dinner, blogging, answering some emails…

Arefti – It’s Leica glass… beautiful colors…

Macro – there is a lot of concern for power this coming summer, especially when air conditioners start to turn on.

Another beautiful set of photos. I love those vivid, saturated colors.

I’m curious — do Tokyo people own dogs at all ?

In your images I see a very very clean city. On the contrary here on the Cote d’Azur (or at least in Nice) everything is beautiful but the streets–polluted by dogs “dejections”.

BTW CNN today states that you will have a 20% power shortage this summer as TEPCO supplies energy at 50hz, while the rest of japan is at 60hz and there are not enough machines to do the conversion.

I … kind of do not believe this. Seems very odd. What do you know ?

I can’t wait to see the blossoms in bloom!
And I almost like this lens better than the 21… maybe. Your images are lovely, as always!

And as for tallest building/structure -

That’s a tough one to determine!

I just wanted to leave a note of appreciation for your blog. I lived in Tokyo between 2006 and 2008 and fell absolutely head over heels in love with the place. The vicissitudes of life mean I’m back in the UK now, but your photos trigger so many happy memories. Thanks!

I can never again hear or see Mapo Tofu without having to recall the anime “Cooking Master Boy”. One episode had the main character cook it. Such fun.

I had wanted to be in Japan for the hanami. It’ll be on the month that I’ll grow another year older, and I wanted to celebrate the big 3-oh there. Alas, my finances aren’t enough to take me there. I shall live vicariously through your photos and stories until I can really make it there. :)
