Sunday in Tokyo

An afternoon walk around Nakameguro and Gagukei-Daigaku…   Let’s start with the temple next to my house…

We are looking for a new place to live and I took the train down to Gakugei-Daigaku to check out the area.

Japan doesn’t have a noise ordinance law so there are often big vans with huge speakers announcing new record releases, political campaigns, communism and all sorts of things.   It is pretty amazing that people are allow to be this annoying legally.

This group was protesting these vans.

Good thing.

They were doing it using a loud speaker to do it.

Bad thing.

Maybe they are missing the point of their own protest…

I needed to get my hair cut and thought I would try this place…but they were closed.   I found a 1,000 yen shop that works ‘Barber’s Hours’ down the street…

The Polariod SX-70…  it’s very cool.  I am thinking of ordering one in black.   The film is a bit expensive and I think Kai will just want to keep shooting off pictures.    I will add this to wish list along with the Fuji Film x100.

I stopped off to buy some cakes for another ‘Cake Date’ with Mayumi…  I really don’t want to get fat so I will off set this with a pre-date 10K run.    It should keep the world in balance.

There’s quite a lot of graffiti on the street signs here as well. Although in the university I studied it, they somewhat allow it as a sort of “freedom of expression”.

After seing all those vespas, you should listen to this:

(“give me a vespa 50 special – summer is coming- gimme a special 50 and I bring you to the sea “)

The people shouting against noise were really interesting—-maybe D.Hofstadter could comment on them!

And…the SX70 is a masterpiece, built in 1972, designed in the 1970-1972 timeframe, it was electronically controlled (at that time, the 8mm movie cameras run on spring motors!!!). But mind you, taking photos with “Impossible” film is still complex!

So another task for you— you have to look at videos by this guy:

I love those busy street scenes. They really catch the hustle and bustle of the city.
