I shot around Roppongi Hill’s the other day after Tokyo Midtown. I was very happy when I learnt last year that you can go to the roof and shoot for about 1,800 yen, however they do not allow tripods.
Today’s configuration: Today I shot my Leica M9 and I shot all of my lens: Summilux 21mm f/1.4, Summilux 35mm f/1.4, Noctilux 50mm f/0.95.

Up to the Sky Deck!

What a great view. I need to get up here when the sky is bright blue and full of clouds.

The sun sets over Shinjuku… This helps you to see how massive Tokyo is. Shinjuku looks so tiny from here. There are 23 wards in Tokyo.

I was getting a little too much noise, even on 100 iso…

so when you can’t get the shot you want… go Bokeh!

alife Nightclub in Nishi Azabu.

I had dinner at Gonpachi. This is where they filmed the massive sword fighting scene in Kill Bill. The food is excellent here. I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t. 1-13-11 Nishiazabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-0031, 03-5771-0170. Many famous people eat here.

I stopped off and bought Mayumi some flowers to thank her for all of the photography time I am getting this week.

Japanese Word of the Day: 苦しい(くるしい)kurushii – painful, difficult, too full.
example:
I ate too much my stomach is too full.
…see everyone tomorrow.

Thanks KP – I didn’t know that. I always believed the rumor. I think I’ll keep believe it as I like the story better…
Gonpachi is great fun and good food. It was the INSPIRATION for the movie set but Kill Bill was not filmed there. They are happy to let the “it was filmed there” rumour stay active though!
It should be pretty good weather. Enjoy Shooting Tokyo….
It’s not bad for Japan. Sort of what I would expect to pay.
I have to agree that those were great shots with great view! the viewing platform at helipad on top of the building just look so cool! is that the only open air viewing platform available in tokyo? i know about the metropolitan building but it was indoor and the reflection from the glass does not make the picture look so great. but for 1800yen, i am not sure if it is a little bit too expensive? anyway, i will sure visit this place on my next trip to japan in February. Hope it doesnt get too cold.
Great pictures! We went to Gonpachi on our trip last month. I wish we would have made reservations to sit upstairs. I would have loved to get a shot like that.
I didn’t know the scene was actually filmed there. Very cool!
Thanks for spending the time taking great photos! My trip is at the end of May, arriving on 24th, leaving for Osaka on 30th. Hopefully the weather going to be nice around that time.
Hi Josh – Those are awesome. We had them as well. I love that place.
I went to Gonpachi on my last visit to Japan. It was really neat. The movie made it seem so much bigger, though. The Kobe beef skewers are amazing. Great pics!
