Unproductive Weekend

I had an unproductive weekend, sort of.  Netflix just launched in Japan last week.   It’s a little hard to say that since I worked on Saturday but stay with me.   As someone who tries to be as productive as possible at all times it’s embarrassing to say I

Analog Sunday

I woke up this morning wanting to buy some new photography equipment.  I’m not sure why.  Perhaps it was because my friend John Hall Blog let me try his Leica Q on Friday night.    That is a pretty amazing camera.  I checked availability but nothing is available

Staying Balanced

Another busy week in Tokyo.  I am working really hard to keep everything in my life balanced.  It easy to get really busy or focused on one thing and have something else end up falling over.   For the past few weeks I felt like I have been able to maintain a very good

Sell Your Soul

Another busy week in my life.  I think I am finally finding a good balance of my work schedule, Japanese study, photography and family (at least this week).  I hope I can continue to balance this and maybe find a little more time for exercise.  I have been watching

Reinstated

I have had a lot going on lately.  Wow it’s been almost a month!   I think this was the longest I haven’t posted on ShootTokyo but life sometimes goes that way.  I have been super busy with some family things that needed my attention.  It just wasn’t

Clearing my head

I have been getting home super late at night for the past week.  Last night I wanted to go for a walk and clear my head after getting home.   I was also really hungry so I went in search of something to eat. I haven’t really given my new Summilux 50mm a good

5 Cities

I have been in 5 cities in the past four weeks; Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, San Francisco and Los Angeles.  I have logged close to 70,000 miles year to date.  I am expecting things will slow down a little bit in the second half of the year but probably not that much.

New York City Monochromo

Here is a series of New York City Monochrom images from my trip at the beginning of the month.   I have been doing a bunch of travel since to Singapore and Thailand.  I write this as I am sitting in the airport lounge at Haneda airport catching the 1AM flight to San

A few days in NYC

I just spent a few days in New York City last week.   I haven’t been here since I took the Jay Maisel Workshop.  That was probably the best week of photography of my life.  A great group of class mates and a great instructor. Half of this trip was work and then

Exploring Tokyo

I resist playing video games as I know with my personality I will become obsessive about the game and spend far too much time on it.   I have been trying to get/stay in shape lately and I found the perfect game to help me to that.  It’s a Google Game called

Another Convert

It’s been a while…  I have been super busy with work and trying to dedicate more time for studying Japanese so this is coming at the expense of my ShootTokyo posts.   I am trying to study 1 hour a day and have been pretty good at maintaining that pace for

Spring Time in Tokyo

I love spring time in Tokyo.  The weather is not too hot and not too cold.  You can wear a light sweater and a light jacket but the jacket isn’t required.   It was nice to not have a weekend that involved travel so I took the opportunity to get out with my wife

Mumbai

I just spent the last week in Mumbai India.   I have made a few trips to India in the past year but I haven’t had much time for photography so wanted to make sure I was able to take some pictures this trip.   The trip was for an event my company was hosting.

Flashing Tokyo: Week 2

I am continuing flashing Tokyoites with a deadpan look on their face…  I am getting the hang of this and really getting a feel for which backgrounds work well with this.  I really like how the images are coming out. Meet Frederique… Today’s Configuration:

Flashing Tokyo: Week 1

I have been carrying my Leica M Monochrom 28mm lens and my small Leica flash for the past week. My shots while out on the street didn’t come out that great but I also didn’t really try that hard.  I mostly spent my time shooting people.  I think I am

Flashing February

I picked up the Leica SF 24D Flash a few years ago but I haven’t used it much.  I mostly use my larger Leica SF-58 Flash which I am pretty comfortable with but it isn’t very practical or very ergonomic to shoot with.    I want to get better with the SF 24D

Matthew's Birthday

Saturday was my friend Matthew’s birthday so on Saturday night I headed out to Devil Craft in Hamamatsucho.   This place has great craft beer and deep dish pizza.   I was actually surprised how good it was.   I wanted to be a bit lazy so I bolted my small flash

Why did you unfriend me?

I recently just did a big clean up and separating of my social media accounts. I have had a few people ask me this week ‘Why did you unfriend me?’ so I thought I would take a moment and explain what I did. My personal Facebook become full of people that I

Dublin and London

What a long few weeks of travel to Dublin and London.   My year is starting fast with upcoming trips to San Francisco, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok and Los Angeles.   I always hope my travel will slow down but it never seems that way. I finished the book American
