All in Film

Snowy New York City

I had a short business trip to New York City last week. The East Coast of the United States was hit with one of the worst storms in many years and with all of the flight delays the trip ended up being a little longer than planned.

Film for a while

I think I am going to go back to shooting only film for a while. I really like the look and feel I can get with film. I like the focus that it brings to my photography. I have such an excess supply of film. Focus, great images, I only see upside.

Analog Sunday

I woke up this morning wanting to buy some new photography equipment.  I’m not sure why.  Perhaps it was because my friend John Hall Blog let me try his Leica Q on Friday night.    That is a pretty amazing camera.  I checked availability but nothing is available

Getting around to shooting

I haven’t shot much film lately.  Not as much as I like anyways.   I was able to get out a few weeks ago to catch up with my friend Pieter for our camera trade.  I love getting new photography gear by trading and not having to spend additional money. The beauty

Needing Inspiration

I haven’t had enough time to get out and shoot trying to balance everything I have going on in my life with work, family and travel.  Perhaps I’m needing inspiration.   Perhaps I need to launch a 365 project or something to get my creative juices flowing

Found Frames

With all of my work, travel and personal projects I feel like I am going 1,000 miles an hour lately.  I was in Seoul last week for a few days.   Thankfully I’ll be in Tokyo for a few days but then I have trips coming up to London, San Francisco, and Seoul

Nakameguro Festival

In my overly busy schedule lately I was able to get out for a few hours so I headed to Nakameguro.  Luckily there as a festival underway.   I actually attended the same festival at the end of a photowalk a few years ago. I have been running non-stop lately.   I just

Nice to be back home

It’s nice to be back home after so long on the road.  I was able to get out last weekend for a little bit with my Hasselblad.   There is something so satisfying about the ‘thunk’ sound the shutter makes.   It is a great way to get out and relax for a

Full Speed Ahead

I just landed in San Francisco off the red eye from Tokyo.   It’s amazing how getting a plane and sleeping is just second nature to me.   Of course I went to bed at 11PM and woke up at 2am.  I stay awake until 4am and finally fell asleep again for 2 hours.   The

A lot going on

Wow I have had a busy couple of weeks!  Sometime I have a lot going on in my life at one time. I got back another roll of film from from my Leica MP-3.  I really love shooting with this camera.  I haven’t shot with it as much as a I want yet I needed to order a

Inspiration and Lifestyle

I often hear from people that this is better than that.  I should get this this camera or rather than that camera.  For me what I want is something that fits my life style that inspires me to shoot.   Both of these points are very important to me and my photography

The Epic Trade

I woke up this morning trying to decide what I wanted to do with my cameras.   I was thinking last night about upgrading to a Leica MP and a Leica Type 240 and consolidating my camera collection a bit.  The more I thought about it the more a Leica MP sounded like the

Calming and Blooming

The more I shoot my new Nikon F3 the more I like it.  It is such a simple camera to shoot and affordable.  I picked mine up for $450 with two lenses. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a first film camera.  The one thing I can’t seem to figure out are the

Around Nakane

I grabbed my new Nikon F3 this morning and loaded it with a roll of Portra 400 and headed out for a walk around Jiyugaoka and Nakane to see what this camera is like.  My initial reaction is it is super easy to use.  Loading film is a breeze, focusing is simple, and I

Shooting Film: Portra 800@3200

I don’t often push color film but I had a roll of Portra 800 and thought I would give it a try.  I was surprised that it pushed very well.  I might need to try to push color film a little more. Today’s configuration:  Leica M6-J with Portra 800@3200 with

Harajuku

I am catching up on all of my scans of film.  I have a pile of negatives waiting to be scanned, processed and posted.   These are from a photowalk I held back in January for Coming of Age Day. Today’s configuration:  Leica M6-J with Portra 400 with Summilux 35mm f/1.4

Snowy Jiyugaoka

I was hoping that I missed all the snow while I was in Las Vegas but Mother Nature has different plans for me.   Tokyo go pounded again when snow just as I returned.   Tokyo has no facilities to deal with snow.   No salting, No sanding, No shovels!   I cleaned off my

Azabu Juban

One morning I drove down to Azabu Juban to explore this little part of Tokyo before it came alive.  I haven’t spent a lot of time in this area so I figured it was a good time to explore.   I was shooting slide film again.   This time Provia 100F.    I only shot

Ilford Pan F 50

I arrived in Las Vegas last night.   For people that don’t travel for work really don’t understand how unpleasant it can be.   I went to sleep around midnight and was wide awake at 2:30am.    It is going to be a long painful day… I got my scanning
