It's all coming together

It has been a busy couple of months for me.   It is hard to describe how busy I have been.   I have little time for basically everything. I was able to meet up with my friends Lui and Richard at a Happy Hour last week.  It is always good to see them.  I first met Richard while out shooting in Shibuya night after the earthquake in 2011.    I later met Lui at TEDxTokyo.  I was friends with both of them on Facebook but it took me a while to realize they were a couple.

They are typical overachievers; Richard runs a very successful design studio called imageMILL.   They are producing my ShootTokyo eBook.   Lui runs a Yoga School called Sunroom Yoga.   She she is too humble to tell you that she won Miss World Japan in 2007 and was a finalist for Miss Universe in 2008.

Speaking of my ShootTokyo Book, production finishes this week. I should be getting copies on Friday.  I will begin shipping them out early next week along with ShootTokyo T-Shirts for those who ordered them.   I will release the eBook and Digital Image Packs next weekend.   If didn't participate in my Kickstarter don't worry everything will be available in the ShootTokyo Shop.   It's all coming together nicely...

I had a short trip to Seoul this week.    I have been using the same giant Tumi suitcases for years.  When I was wearing suits for work they made sense.  I wanted to be able to carry two suits, two pairs of dress shoes, 4 ties, and way too much other stuff.  Now that I wear a more casual attire which takes up a lot less room I have opted for a much smaller lighter Rimowa suitcase.

I figured a smaller suitcase and I'll carry less stuff.   It worked with my new briefcase so let's hope it will for my suitcase as well.  For my most recent trip my bag only weight 10.2kg.   For me this is amazing.  I typically pack 20-30kg for any trip.  I know I pack way too much stuff!

I'm glad I have worked this out as I have additional trips to India, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and England coming up.

He's going ultra small.   I never understood why people feel the need to carry their suitcase onboard. You have to have such a small bag and I don't mind the 5 or 10 minutes of waiting for my back to come through to baggage claim.  It gives me a few minutes to call my wife and check emails.

I was pretty busy during my short stay in Seoul.   This was the only shot I got off...

I was at one event and we were lucky enough to have Sungha Jung play guitar for us for a little while...  This is one talented young man.   If you haven't heard him play guitar get ready to have your mind blown.

I am still toying with video solutions.   Here is what I narrowed it down to:

Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera:  Out for me. It's a cool camera but a couple of turn offs for me.  It has a 2.88 crop factor and makes my Leica lenses useless on it so I lose the advantage of using my lenses.  They also dropped the price to $500 which caused it to sell out all across Tokyo.   On eBay and Amazon people are actually jacking up the price.

Canon 5DMKIII:  Good quality but requires me to get new lenses.  It is big so I'm concerned I won't bring it with me when I travel which is when my opportunity for a lot of shooting may be.  Still on the fence as I know the quality if fantastic.

Sony A7S: Good quality.  I can use my Leica lenses.  Small.   I may get this as I can easily carry it along in my briefcase as an extra body or even swap out my M9 body on certain trips.

Thanks for stopping by today...
