Mar 6 Shiodome Kimono de Jack

Today I went down to Shiodome to see the 'Kimono de Jack' that was being held. Kimono de Jack was started in Kyoto by 11 kimono lovers who thought there are not enough occasions in life to dress in a kimono. They thought this was one of the causes of the decline of the Kimono industry and they wanted to do something about it. They decided to announce an event on Twitter where people could come and wear their Kimonos and take over an area for a few hours with people wearing Kimonos. Their dream is...a train filled with people in Kimonos, a famous shopping fill with people in Kimonos, a famous park fill with... well you get the idea. I think this is a fantastic idea to keep culture alive but for a photographer it is a fantastic photography opportunity. The first event was held on May 7th 2010 in Kyoto. It received some press but since has spread like wild fire across Japan, Europe and the Americas.
