Dalat Vietnam
More photos from my trip to Dalat Vietnam last year. Dalat is a popular tourist destination in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Located at 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level its weather is a contrast to the tropical climate you would expect in Vietnam. It is a popular destinations for honeymoons in South East Asia.
It was first established as a resort center 1907 when it was part of the French territory of Cochinchina and the French endowed the city with villas, boulevards and Swiss charms that give Dalat a lot of its charm today. During World War II, Dalat was the capital of the Federation of Indochina from 1935 to 1945. Dalat all but missed the Vietnam War with the only significant involvement being fierce battles between January 31st and February 9, 1969 between South Vietnamese MP units and VietCong. The MPs were ultimately victorious.
