Hanging with Herbie
I went to Leica Ginza after work last night to have them repair my 1.4x magnifier that I use with my Noctilux. I always seem to pull the rubber eyepiece off of it. While I was waiting for it to be repaired I was looking at Japanese photographer Herbie Yamaguchi's picture of Joe Strummer of The Clash hanging up in the gallery when he walked over and said 'Hi I'm Herbie'. How cool is that? Hanging with Herbie at Leica. I didn't see him there at first but of course, knew who he was when he walked up to me as my wife gave me a few of his books for my birthday last year. Herbie shoots Leica Film Cameras and does great portrait work. He had a show starting and was waiting for some people to show up...
It was not crowded at first so we were able to chat for a while my magnifier was being repaired. As we chatted I learnt that I lived across the street from him for my first 8 years in Japan. We lived only 3 minutes apart. What a small world!
The place quickly filled up with some of Herbie's fans...
He said to me 'this lady sings Rock and Roll'...
Herbie and I...
He was a very down to earth guy. We chatted a lot and agreed to meet up for a beer in the near future in our old shared neighborhood... Thanks for stopping by today...
