Robot Restaurant
I get asked a lot by students coming to Tokyo what is a good cost effective camera to capture Tokyo with. I always answer the same way - the Ricoh GR. I love mine. It has great ISO capability. The wide perspective is perfect for capturing Tokyo. You can get pretty good deals on them. I had a co-worker in town a few weeks ago and decided to go to dinner. I have been to the same places a bunch of times lately and really wanted to try something different. I have passed the Robot Restaurant many times but have never been there to see the show. I don't typically do a lot of the touristy things around Tokyo but this is something that I really wanted to see. Check out their YouTube Channel to see what it's all about.
Today's Configuration: Ricoh GR
The Robot Restaurant! and yes... that's a real person in that red suit.
'so dangerous'...
We didn't eat as we didn't book in advance to reserve a bento box.
It is very hard to explain what was going on for most of the show. It starts with a mix of drumming, a flute and then a violin solo...
Then robots got in a big fight...
Then a Panda and Tiger came in to fight robots but lost...
So they returned riding a cow and eventually won (as you would expect)...
Then it was an all out robot war against the girls who were drumming in the beginning...
The girls returned on a neon tank and ended up winning (of course)...
If you live in Tokyo you may have seen these robots riding around on the back of a truck advertising the Robot Restaurant.
This was a lot of fun and something I would recommend if you are looking for something different in Tokyo...
Since we didn't eat we headed to my favorite Jou Mon in Roppongi for Yakitori...
You can ever go wrong at this place...
The project has already exceeded my wildest expectations raising more than 400% of my initial goal. The projects success has allowed me to upgrade the entire printing process, the materials being used to create the book and best of all I am upgrading everyone who orders a book to a hardcover at no extra charge.
I am so excited and grateful for the success of the project. If you haven't checked out my Kickstarter: Please do.
I'm very grateful that so many people have shared and tweeted my project out to their friends. For that I say 'Thank You'. A few notable pickups.
Japan's National Tourism Organization tweeted my project.
The Photography Blogger interviewed me...
Time Out Tokyo wrote a short blog post on my book project as well...
I'm very grateful for all of the support for my project. A few people have asked me how to upgrade their pledges from eBook to Book or from Book to Book +T-Shirt or +Print. I provided some instructions in the FAQ.
I was starting to think how am I going to handle shipping all of these books. Where am I going to get all of the packing supplies. How do I get this many books to the post office. I pinged by friend Max from White Rabbit Japan to see where they get their shipping supplies and handle their shipping. I order my Japanese study books from them and they always come nicely packed.
Long story short they agreed to help me with all of the logistics for the project! A huge relief for me and allows me to put more focus on the creative pieces of the project.
Thanks for stopping by today...
