The 1% Model
As a lot of you know I joined Salesforce.com last week and I am in San Francisco this week and next for new hire training.
One thing that really attracted me to Salesforce was their internal culture and their integrated philanthropy model through their Foundation. I had been doing work with in Cambodia and wanted to make sure I could continue to have a positive impact on the community around me after I changed jobs. Salesforce.com calls it The 1% Model. Their model is simple; they give 1% of employees time, 1% of products and 1% of equity back to the communities where employees work and live. Many other IT companies have replicated this model.
A lot of companies speak about corporate philanthropy...and they 'walk the talk' as we spend the afternoon on day one of new hire training working at a local charity. I was assigned to work with a group at The San Francisco Food Bank packing bags of rice.
The Food Bank functions as a clearing house for programs across San Francisco...
Good advice...
We got a tour and learned about the great work being done there...

We bagged more than 1,500 lbs of rice for distribution around San Francisco...
Me in the mirror....'Hairnet style'.
A great way to get introduced to the culture of the company. Thanks for stopping by today...
