Mishin = Yummy!
Some friends of my family opened a new restaurant in Shimouma in Tokyo called Trattoria Cafe Mishin (1-37-7 Shimouma, 03 5787 5990, open 11am~late). The chef /owner of this restaurant was actually the chef at the restaurant where my wife first introduced me to her parents. My wife Mayumi and I decided to head over last weekend and check out the new place...
A lot of these small Japanese restaurants have such a unique and charming way of decorating. It's very Western but with a Japanese edge to it. Very hard to explain or replicate.
What I find the most fascinating in Japan is the amount of focus, effort and precision people put into their work. There were a bunch of little parts to our meal but each was made with such dedication.
When I first moved to Japan the concept of a 'set' lunch always bothered me. I wanted to ability to choose my soup, if I wanted a salad and what I wanted for a main but so many places offer 'sets' sometimes only offering a single choice or others times two. What you quickly release is how amazing just about anything you eat in Japan is...regardless of the cuisine and Mishin is a perfect example of that.
We went with the set lunch; Antipasto, Fresh Fish Carpaccio, Fresh Aoki Farm Salad, Beef Stew, Penne in tomato cream with pancetta and shitake mushroom, and pumpkin and shrimp fritto. It was so good... I could have eaten everything on the bottom row two or three times.
We also had some delicious seafood pasta...
She likes cameras...
There is a neat lounge upstairs... I bet it is super cool to hang out in at night. I took a quick nap in a hammock they had hanging from the celling to recover from a small food induced coma...
Meet Nobuko and Kazumasa...
I hope we come back here soon... at least my stomach does. Make sure you check it out... It's about a 10 minute walk from Sangen-gyaya, Ikejiri-Ohashi or Yutenji Stations.
Aside from getting to eat great food, I enjoyed talking to everyone, getting to photograph the restaurant... I think I need to start doing restaurant reviews on here. I have actually been thinking about doing a Tokyo Cheeseburger Guide as I have been finding some pretty amazing ones lately. Let me know what you think!
Thanks for stopping by today...
