Wherever I May Roam

I always wonder if owning a car in Tokyo is a waste of money.   Parking is expensive anywhere you go.  It is expensive to park even at your apartment.    I don’t drive to work or to the airport.   I drive on weekends and sometimes it is only 1 of the days.

Tokyo Photo 2013

For those in Tokyo this weekend you are in for a treat.  Tokyo Photo 2013 is being held at Zojo-ji.   Top galleries from US, Europe and Asia are showcasing and selling their best prints including some very rare vintage prints.

Jet Lag and Technology

I had a trip to Scottsdale Arizona this week.   I arrived on Sunday.  I am usually pretty good at quickly adjusting to timezones and avoiding jet lag but this trip was not the case. I went to sleep at 11:30pm on Sunday night and woke up at midnight.

Around Jiyugaoka

I haven’t had nearly enough time to shoot lately.  I have been far to busy at work and traveling a ton.   I tried to get out last Sunday but ended up getting rained out.   This is when having a SLR is handy.    I used to take my Canon 5D out in a typhoon

Monochrom

I was cleaning up the working folders in my Lightroom Library and found a bunch of images from my Leica M Monochrom that I haven’t shared yet so I thought I would.   I really enjoy shooting with his camera.  It has often become my go to camera in the evening

Land of the Rising Cone

My favorite post on ShootTokyo is my ‘Speaking as the World’s Foremost Authority‘ on the Excessive Use of Cones where I talk about cultural observations in how traffic cones are excessively deployed throughout Tokyo.

Foggy San Francisco

Nothing like a red eye to the states to wake you up.  The worst thing you can do is go to sleep as you will never get adjusted to the time zone.   Typically I get up and go right away.  This is what I did when I woke up in Foggy San Francisco off my red eye flight

Heading to San Francisco

I am at Nartia and heading to San Francisco.   My travel comes in spirts and it’s been more than a month since I traveled.   I grabbed The Friendly Bus from the Westin.  People always think I am kidding when I say I am taking ‘The Friendly Bus’

Within a day

I find it interesting when I review my photos and see what I am able to see within a day as I go around Tokyo. I don’t think I’ll ever take for granted how great of a city I live in. There are constantly scenes for me to photography

So Tired

It has been a long few months at work and my team has been working really hard.    Last night I rented out the famous and trendy bar ‘So Tired’ in Marunochi (near Ginza) and hosted a Happy Hour for my team and their friends.

Some Mamiya 645 Shots

I was going through my ‘working’ folder in Lightroom and found some Mamiya 645 shots from a walk I took during a walk in Jiyugaoka and Shibuya.   I actually have a bunch of shots in there from my last trip to San Francisco

Restoring Memories

I went with a team from work to volunteer and help with restoring memories for some people who need it. We went to a beach town called Chigaseki about an hour from Tokyo. I’m sure many of you have the exact same question I had when I first emerged

The Contax T3

I have been thinking for a while about picking up a compact film camera.   This is a cool little film camera. While my Leica is very small I sometimes just want a point and shoot and this was a great choice.   I can see myself starting to collect compacts.

Shibuya on Ilford 3200

A few week’s ago I met up with my friend Humphrey who was in town on business from Hong Kong.  We decided to meet up in Shibuya and check out the camera show that was going on.   I love checking these out.   All of the camera shops in Japan bring out some

Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine and the area surrounding it has become a favorite place for me and my buddy Dave to go shooting.    Nezu has great little streets to walk down around on the way to the shrine.   The shrine itself is very understated and filled with great colors and scenes

A walk in Nezu

Going for a walk in Nezu makes for the perfect afternoon.  It has become one of my favorite places to go shooting and explore a little old part of Tokyo. Tokyo has some great places to explore in the evening such as Golden Gai in Shinjuku and Harmonica Yokocho

Around Jiyugaoka Station

I like to go for a walk and try to tell the story of an area.  It is fun to do little walk abouts like this and see if you can give people a feeling for what they would experience there.   It has been a while since I shot around Jiyugaoka Station so I set that as my
