Black (& White) Friday

I got up early today and as I was heading out the door at 6:45 as usual I realized I didn’t have any early morning meetings for once.   The benefit of working for a US based company – Thanksgiving Weekend!   While it isn’t a holiday in Japan I can

San Francisco

What a long but fantastic 10 days in San Francisco.   I’m sitting in my hotel room, packed, exhausted and ready to head to the airport.    Last weekend I held a photowalk when I had a little free time.   As always a great crowd showed up.

Considerably Less Busy

I was considerably less busy this week than the past month or so.   ‘Less busy’ is a relative term with me as I always have a million and one things going on at once.   I have a very demanding work schedule and a very aggressive personal and family

San Francisco Photowalk

I will be going to San Francisco for business and when I travel I like to hold photowalks in the city I am in as it is a great way to see the city and meet up with a lot of people at once.   I have held past photowalks in Tokyo, Sydney, Beijing, Singapore

Mood Board

I have been trying out a new approach of hosting ‘Happy Hours’ as a technique of team celebration coupled with company awareness/market awareness with a lot of success.   In August I rented out the famous and trendy bar ‘So Tired’ in Marunochi

Good Morning Jiyugaoka

I love that the heat of Tokyo has finally left us and Autumn is here.    I went for a nice walk this morning around Jiyugaoka to take some photos and pick up a drink at Starbucks.   I order the same thing every time I got to Starbucks; a Grande Americano in a Venti

The Leica C1

I was looking around online last week and found a Leica C1 for $90.   The condition of this little camera is absolutely amazing.  It is mint.  I even have the cool little plastic weather proof case it comes with.   The C1 was one of Leica’s first compact cameras

Shimokitazawa

I have only been to Shimokitazawa once before so it was nice to get out and explore that area a bit.    While I really like shooting film I think what I really like the processing part.   With digital I can shoot, get it home, process it really fast

Wherever I May Roam

I always wonder if owning a car in Tokyo is a waste of money.   Parking is expensive anywhere you go.  It is expensive to park even at your apartment.    I don’t drive to work or to the airport.   I drive on weekends and sometimes it is only 1 of the days.

Tokyo Photo 2013

For those in Tokyo this weekend you are in for a treat.  Tokyo Photo 2013 is being held at Zojo-ji.   Top galleries from US, Europe and Asia are showcasing and selling their best prints including some very rare vintage prints.

Jet Lag and Technology

I had a trip to Scottsdale Arizona this week.   I arrived on Sunday.  I am usually pretty good at quickly adjusting to timezones and avoiding jet lag but this trip was not the case. I went to sleep at 11:30pm on Sunday night and woke up at midnight.

Around Jiyugaoka

I haven’t had nearly enough time to shoot lately.  I have been far to busy at work and traveling a ton.   I tried to get out last Sunday but ended up getting rained out.   This is when having a SLR is handy.    I used to take my Canon 5D out in a typhoon

Monochrom

I was cleaning up the working folders in my Lightroom Library and found a bunch of images from my Leica M Monochrom that I haven’t shared yet so I thought I would.   I really enjoy shooting with his camera.  It has often become my go to camera in the evening

Land of the Rising Cone

My favorite post on ShootTokyo is my ‘Speaking as the World’s Foremost Authority‘ on the Excessive Use of Cones where I talk about cultural observations in how traffic cones are excessively deployed throughout Tokyo.

Foggy San Francisco

Nothing like a red eye to the states to wake you up.  The worst thing you can do is go to sleep as you will never get adjusted to the time zone.   Typically I get up and go right away.  This is what I did when I woke up in Foggy San Francisco off my red eye flight

Heading to San Francisco

I am at Nartia and heading to San Francisco.   My travel comes in spirts and it’s been more than a month since I traveled.   I grabbed The Friendly Bus from the Westin.  People always think I am kidding when I say I am taking ‘The Friendly Bus’

Within a day

I find it interesting when I review my photos and see what I am able to see within a day as I go around Tokyo. I don’t think I’ll ever take for granted how great of a city I live in. There are constantly scenes for me to photography

So Tired

It has been a long few months at work and my team has been working really hard.    Last night I rented out the famous and trendy bar ‘So Tired’ in Marunochi (near Ginza) and hosted a Happy Hour for my team and their friends.
